Jaana Viljaranta is a post-doctoral researcher at the Department of Psychology, University of Jyväskylä, a fellow in the Pathways to Adulthood –programme, and a member in the Gender & STEM -network. She has published papers in leading journals such as Learning and Instruction and Contemporary Educational Psychology.
Jaana Viljaranta is interested in exploring how student motivation develops at different phases of the school career and how it affects to academic performance and future educational and occupational plans and decisions. The focus of her dissertation was the development and the role of subject-specific interest and task values. In her current work these topics are linked to other motivational aspects, such as self-concept of ability and achievement-related behaviors, and the role of parenting and teacher-student interaction in relation to motivation and future plans is examined in greater details.
